In a hard-fought, opening-round battle, the fourth-seeded Lions of East Mississippi Community College dropped a tough 70-64 decision to No. 5 seed Hinds Community College during Tuesday’s men’s action of the NJCAA Region 23 Basketball Tournament being played at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus.

After serving as the proud host of last week’s MACJC Basketball Tournament on the Scooba campus, East Mississippi Community College’s hoops teams are set to begin competition in this week’s (March 3-6) NJCAA Region 23 Tournament in Clinton. The four-day tournament begins with men’s opening-round action on Tuesday with women’s action starting on Wednesday at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus.

The EMCC Lions remained tied for first place atop the division standings by claiming a hard-fought 56-47 road decision over Coahoma during Thursday’s MACJC North Division basketball action played at the Pinnacle. The visiting Lady Lions posted their 13th consecutive victory and remained perfect in division play with a 67-50 win over the Lady Tigers in women’s action.
