All-region EMCC hoops standout Quantesha Patterson signs with Delta State
Two-time all-region women’s basketball standout Quantesha Patterson of East Mississippi Community College has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her collegiate career at Delta State University.
SCOOBA – Two-time all-region women's basketball standout Quantesha Patterson of East Mississippi Community College has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her collegiate career at Delta State University.
Selected NJCAA All-Region 23 and MACJC All-State First Team during each of the past two seasons for Coach Sharon Thompson's EMCC Lions, Patterson posted career averages of 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per game. The 5-foot-11 forward also shot a collective 64.9 percent from the field and recorded 26 career double-doubles while starting all 44 games at East Mississippi. The four-time MACJC Player of the Week during her two seasons on the Scooba campus concluded her EMCC playing career by participating in this year's MACJC Women's Basketball All-Star Game in Decatur.
"Quantesha is a very talented player who won a state championship at East Webster High School and then went on to put up some impressive numbers at EMCC in the junior college ranks," said Delta State head women's basketball coach Craig Roden. "She is a special player and we are excited to have her in Green and White."
As a repeat all-region and all-state performer, Patterson averaged 17.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per contest with 13 double-doubles this past season for the 12-10 EMCC Lions. The East Webster High School product ranked third nationally among the NJCAA Division I ranks by shooting 63.7 percent from the field in addition to averaging 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocks as a collegiate sophomore.
"Quantesha has a knack for scoring and rebounding the basketball. She just gets it done on both ends of the court," said EMCC's Thompson. "She is going to a great school with a solid program under Coach Roden."
During her impact freshman season at East Mississippi, Patterson ranked ninth nationally with an average of 20.4 points per game to stand second among NJCAA Division I freshmen. She had four 30-point efforts on the year, highlighted by a season-high, 34-point performance at Northwest Mississippi. Along with registering 13 double-doubles and ranking second nationally in field goal percentage (65.8%) as a collegiate rookie, the Maben native also averaged 10.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks an outing.
Patterson capped her prep career by leading the East Webster Lady Wolverines to the 2014-15 MHSAA Class 2A State Championship with a career-high, 39-point performance against West Tallahatchie in the title game to earn game MVP honors. She averaged 24.4 points per game as a senior, including five 30-point showings.
