The East Mississippi Community College softball team saw its 2016 campaign draw to a close this past weekend in getting swept at third-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in an MACJC best-of-three playoff series. After getting run-ruled 11-2 during Friday night’s opener, the Lions battled to the end before dropping a 4-1 decision to the Lady Bulldogs Saturday afternoon at Ross-Smith Field.
The Lions of East Mississippi Community College made their “Sophomore Day” experience even more enjoyable Monday afternoon by sweeping Northwest Mississippi by identical 4-3 scores and securing the MACJC’s No. 7 seed for this weekend’s best-of-three playoff series.
A 16-hit attack during a 13-7 nightcap victory lifted the East Mississippi Community College softball team to an MACJC home doubleheader split with Hinds Community College Sunday afternoon at the EMCC Softball Field. The visitors opened the twin bill with a 6-0 win over the home-standing Lions.
In the midst of their current softball home stand, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College used an eight-run fifth inning to claim an 11-8 win over rival Meridian Community College during Tuesday's first game of an MACJC doubleheader played at the EMCC Softball Field. The visiting Lady Eagles held on to earn the twin-bill split with a 7-5 nightcap victory.
In an MACJC softball doubleheader moved up a day because of impending rain, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College couldn't solve the pitching of Kaitlyn Taylor in dropping a pair of decisions, 11-2 and 9-1, to Copiah-Lincoln Community College Thursday afternoon at the EMCC Softball Field.
East Mississippi opens long-awaited home softball slate with 8-4, 5-1 doubleheader sweep over Holmes
In their home softball opener coming more than a month after the start of the season, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College made it worth the wait by sweeping Holmes Community College, 8-4 and 5-1, during Tuesday afternoon MACJC action at the EMCC Softball Field.
The East Mississippi Community College softball team broke even during this weekend's Rush Invitational hosted by Meridian Community College. After holding on to beat host MCC 6-3 and coming back to knock off Shelton State 7-6 in nine innings on Friday, the Lions dropped a tough 2-0 decision Saturday morning to preseason fourth-ranked Chipola College before concluding the two-day tournament at Northeast Park with an 8-6 afternoon setback to Copiah-Lincoln.
The visiting East Mississippi Community College softball team was limited to five total hits along with committing 10 errors in the field en route to dropping a pair of run-rule decisions (9-0, 9-1) to preseason second-ranked East Central Community College Saturday afternoon on the ECCC campus.
Riding the momentum gained during last weekend's successful season-opening tournament showing at the Pearl River-hosted Wildcat Invitational, the East Mississippi Community College softball team will visit preseason second-ranked and reigning national runner-up East Central Community College Saturday afternoon in Decatur. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Softball Park on the ECCC campus.
The East Mississippi Community College softball team begins the 2016 campaign with a balanced roster of returnees and newcomers. The Lions will look to start blending that equal mix of experienced players and incoming talent this weekend, as their challenging opening month of the new season gets underway Friday at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Pearl River Community College.
