MAGNOLIA, Ark. — East Mississippi Community College had seven team ropers advance to Saturday's championship round of the Annual Southern Arkansas University Intercollegiate Rodeo. The three-day NIRA Ozark Region event took place this past weekend at SAU's Story Arena.
The EMCC men posted their third seventh-place team finish of the fall season, while the EMCC women placed eighth to finish among the team standings for the second straight week.
Leading the way for the Lions was the team-roping tandem of Dylan Delmas (Athens, AL) and Kannon Nunnery (Liberty, MS), who collected 100 total team points between them with a second-place time of 6.9 seconds during the opening round. Nunnery was making his EMCC competition debut after transferring from Pearl River Community College.
Along with having two tandems competing as teammates, the Lions also had three other individuals who paired up with ropers from other schools. The other EMCC duo featured cowgirl Ryleigh Parker (Hayesville, NC) and cowboy Gavin Williams (Macon, MS) placing in team roping for the second consecutive week. Parker's 40 points were the lone points scored for the EMCC women's team.
EMCC's Colton Mewbourn (Mathiston, MS) made it back to the championship round of team roping for the third time this fall with Three Rivers College's Preston Fox. A third-place effort of 7.1 seconds in the finals earned each roper 70 points for their respective schools.
The remaining 10 points of the Lions' 180 men's team total were claimed by Tyler Brooks (South Fulton, TN), who paired with Drew Dollar of host Southern Arkansas.
In addition to advancing to the championship round of team roping with SAU's Jeff Farmer, EMCC's Carson Powell (Benton, AR) also made it back to the tie-down roping finals, though he did not score in either event.
Head coach Morgan Goodrich's East Mississippi rodeo teams will conclude the fall portion of their 2024-25 NIRA Ozark Region schedule by competing at the Murray State University-hosted event, Nov. 14-16, in Murray, Ky.
