EMCC closes out fall rodeo slate with fourth-place men’s team finish at Murray State event

MURRAY, Ky. — Claiming the top two spots in the tie-down roping event, the East Mississippi Community College men's rodeo team closed out the Ozark Region's fall schedule with a fourth-place finish in the 48th Annual Racer Roundup College Rodeo this past weekend. Hosted by Murray State University, the three-day event concluded Saturday night at the William "Bill' Cherry Expo Center.
Reigning College National Finals Rodeo participant Tanner Brown (Florence, MS) claimed winning times of 10.4 seconds during both rounds of tie-down roping to account for 180 of EMCC's 420 total team points. Kemper Academy product Matt Watt finished as the event's runner-up with efforts of 11.1 and 11.9 seconds that earned the Scooba native 120 points.
The Lions also picked up 80 points with Carson Powell's (Benton, AR) fourth-place showing in the steer wrestling competition, while EMCC's tandem of Dylan Delmas (Athens, AL) and Waylon Buskirk (Shannon, MS) contributed the remaining 40 team points in the team roping event.
Also for East Mississippi, Dylan Jones (Lena, MS) and Roper Stoots (Louisville, MS) earned 150 individual points apiece for their runner-up team roping performance.
Northwest Mississippi edged Missouri Valley College by 10 points (635-625) for the Racer Roundup men's team title. In women's competition, UT Martin earned a narrow team win over runner-up Pearl River (373.33-345).
Head coach Morgan Goodrich's East Mississippi rodeo teams will participate in five spring events, including serving as hosts of the 12th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo to be held at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center in Meridian.
