EMCC freshmen Jermaurhiyun Anderson and DeAndre Lewis earn All-MACCC Honorable Mention
East Mississippi Community College freshmen basketball standouts Jermaurhiyun Anderson and DeAndre Lewis have earned All-MACCC honorable mention recognition, while fellow EMCC frosh Dukiaha Jones has been named to this year’s All-MACCC Women’s Basketball Second Team. As voted on by the conference’s head coaches, the 2024-25 All-MACCC men’s and women’s basketball teams were announced Tuesday by the Jackson-based Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
JACKSON – East Mississippi Community College freshmen basketball standouts Jermaurhiyun Anderson and DeAndre Lewis have earned All-MACCC honorable mention recognition, while fellow EMCC frosh Dukiaha Jones has been named to this year's All-MACCC Women's Basketball Second Team. As voted on by the conference's head coaches, the 2024-25 All-MACCC men's and women's basketball teams were announced Tuesday by the Jackson-based Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
For head coach Billy Begley's EMCC Lions, the talented tandem of Anderson (15.11 ppg) and Lewis (15.08 ppg) averaged 30 points per game between them as first-year collegiate standouts. Anderson, from Greenville, South Carolina, led the Lions or shared team scoring honors 14 times this past season, while Lewis, out of two-time reigning MHSAA Class 5A state champion Canton High School, paced EMCC scorers in nine contests.
In addition to posting five 20-point outings on the year, including season-high efforts of 25 points versus Holmes and Reid State, Anderson also averaged 4.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals per contest as an EMCC freshman. He registered his first collegiate double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds at Shelton State. The left-hander out of Quality Education Academy in Winston-Salem, North Carolina posted shooting percentages of 38 percent overall from the field, 31 percent from behind the three-point arc, and 66 percent from the free throw line.
Lewis, who was a 2023-24 Jackson Clarion-Ledger Preseason Dandy Dozen pick at Canton, emerged during conference play as a freshman for the Lions. Along with averaging a team-best 16.7 points per MACCC contest this past season, the 6-foot-5 swingman posted improved shooting percentages of 46 percent overall from the floor, 42 percent from three-point range, and 78 percent from the charity stripe in conference competition. Lewis recorded a team-most seven 20-point outings on the year, highlighted by a season-high 31 points against Northwest Mississippi and 28 points versus Meridian.
Jones, out of West Point High School, came on strong during the second half of the 2024-25 season to finish as EMCC's leading scorer on the year with an average of 10.4 points per game. The Nettleton native also earned notice by finishing her freshman season ranked fourth in the MACCC with 77 steals (3.1 spg) to top the Lady Lions' single-season steals chart dating back to the 2008-09 season.
While leading head coach Isaiah Butler's Lady Lions in scoring in 11 games this past season, Jones recorded three 20-point outings, including a season-high 21 points in EMCC's 52-51 road win over East Central. Defensively, she collected four or more steals in a game 13 times on the year, highlighted by back-to-back efforts with six steals apiece versus MACCC foes Holmes and Itawamba. In those games, Jones also scored 19 and 18 points against Holmes and ICC, respectively.
