In a hard-fought, opening-round battle, the fourth-seeded Lions of East Mississippi Community College dropped a tough 70-64 decision to No. 5 seed Hinds Community College during Tuesday’s men’s action of the NJCAA Region 23 Basketball Tournament being played at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the Mississippi College campus.

EMCC's basketball teams improved to a combined 15-1 on the year in MACJC North Division play by sweeping Holmes Community College on the road during Monday’s conference hoops action played at Frank Branch Coliseum. The Lions completed the sweep with a last-second 66-65 overtime win over the Bulldogs, while the Lady Lions extended their current win streak to 12 consecutive games with a 73-49 victory over Holmes in women’s action.

In women’s action, the Lady Lions fell to the fifth-ranked Lady Buccaneers, 79-52, to begin the night.

Game time for EMCC’s hoops season opener is slated for 1 p.m. at EMCC’s Keyes T. Currie Coliseum, and there will be no charge for admission.
