EMCC sophomore southpaw Bubba Stockstill named MACJC Pitcher of the Week for no-hitter
For his complete-game no-hitter against Pearl River this past Sunday, East Mississippi Community College sophomore Bubba Stockstill has earned MACJC Pitcher of the Week honors.
SCOOBA – For his complete-game no-hitter against Pearl River this past Sunday, East Mississippi Community College sophomore Bubba Stockstill has earned MACJC Pitcher of the Week honors.
During the Lions' 10-0 run-rule, nightcap win over the Wildcats, Stockstill struck out 10 and walked only one while facing just one batter over the minimum during his six-inning shutout. The 6-foot-7 left-hander threw just 74 pitches, including 49 strikes, while allowing only two base runners against PRCC. After working through a second-inning, leadoff walk to Lucas Scott, Stockstill hit Graham Hackbarth with a pitch to open the fifth but the runner was picked off first base by EMCC sophomore catcher Mike Farnell.
For the season, Stockstill owns a 3-4 pitching record with two saves and a 3.38 earned run average. The Pearl River Central High School product has allowed just 14 hits with 29 strikeouts and 15 walks in 26.2 total innings of work. In addition, opposing batters are only hitting a collective .156 against the Carriere native.
Winners of seven of their last eight contests, including last week's home sweeps of Meridian and Pearl River, Coach Chris Rose's EMCC Lions entered the week 21-13 overall and 11-9 within the MACJC heading into Tuesday's road doubleheader against Northeast Mississippi. EMCC is slated to play a 2 p.m. Saturday twin bill at Mississippi Gulf Coast before concluding the regular season next week with road doubleheaders at Itawamba (May 3) and Southwest Mississippi (May 6).
Stockstill, along with MACJC Player of the Week Bailey Walker of Northeast Mississippi, will now be nominated for the NJCAA's weekly national baseball awards.
