The home-standing Lions sent 17 batters to the plate en route to scoring 13 runs in the opening frame of the twin bill. Among EMCC's eight first-inning hits were RBI doubles from Tyler Odom, Austin Braddock and Philip Tice along with a three-run home run by freshman outfielder LeDarious Clark.
Following the 13-run outburst to begin the day, the Lions added two runs in the second inning and six more in the fourth en route to their first of two run-rule shutout victories on the afternoon.
Offensively, EMCC's 13-hit team effort in game one was led by Braddock, Colton Caver, Jake Upton and Colby Ramey with two hits apiece. Clark and Braddock both batted in four runs during the opener.
With Dillon Hawkins picking up his first win of the year, three Lion hurlers limited Coahoma to just two hits in the opener. Following Hawkins' two hitless innings, Corbin Johnson's one inning of work preceded Da'Keith Burton's two-inning stint on the mound.
In Friday's second contest, the Lions waited until the third inning to blow open a 3-0 ballgame by sending 14 batters to the plate during a nine-run frame facilitated by four Coahoma errors.
Five more runs in the fourth, courtesy of Odom's three-run home run and a two-run double by Fredrico Moody, lengthened EMCC's run-rule margin to 17-0 in the nightcap.
For the game, the Lions banged out 14 hits with five players enjoying multiple-hit efforts. Clark, a three-time all-state performer at Southeast Lauderdale and New Hope's Tice each had three hits apiece. Moody, from West Lowndes, Oak Grove's Odom, and Gulfport's Caver all followed with two hits each. Moody and Odom knocked in five and three runs, respectively, in the nightcap.
Again, a trio of Lion pitchers held the Coahoma bats in check during game two, as KC Abney, Conner Burton and Blake Thomas combined to allow just three singles in five innings. Abney threw the first three innings to register his first pitching victory of the season.
Head coach Chris Rose's EMCC Lions, now 15-17 overall and 5-7 within the division, continue their homestand by playing host to division foe Itawamba Community College in a 1 p.m. Saturday doubleheader on the Scooba campus. The Lions will then conclude their current four-date homestand by entertaining Northeast Mississippi Community College during a 4 p.m. Tuesday twin bill at EMCC's Gerald Poole Field.
