EMCC’s Ja’Mia Hollings named MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
East Mississippi Community College’s Ja’Mia Hollings has been selected as the MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week following a pair of double-double efforts during last week’s EMCC home victories over Meridian and Holmes.

Hollings, a freshman forward for Coach Sharon Thompson's 12-2 EMCC Lady Lions, raised her season total to seven double-doubles by averaging 12.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists during last week's pair of outings. The West Point product also shot a collective 53 percent (8-15 FGs) from the field and 73 percent (8-11 FTs) from the line.
After totaling 14 points (4-8 FGs & 6-7 FTs), 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals in the Lady Lions' 61-48 win over Meridian on Monday (Jan. 6), Hollings capped last week with 10 points (4-7 FGs & 2-4 FTs), 10 rebounds, four steals and an assist during Thursday's (Jan. 9) 55-36 victory over Holmes.
On the heels of last week's acclaimed performances, Hollings opened the current week by pouring in a season-high 27 points on red-hot 12-of-14 shooting from the field in addition to collecting eight rebounds and four steals during Monday's 79-48 home win over Coahoma. The 31-point triumph extended the Lady Lions' current winning streak to seven consecutive games and improved their unbeaten MACJC North Division record to 3-0 on the year.
For the season, Hollings currently leads EMCC's Lady Lions in scoring (13.9 ppg), rebounding (9.1 rpg), steals (3.1 spg), blocked shots (11) and field-goal percentage (60.3%). In division play, her numbers improve to 20.0 points and 9.3 rebounds per game as well as 74.3 percent shooting from the field.
The East Mississippi basketball teams will travel to Senatobia for a Thursday night doubleheader against the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College. A 5:30 p.m. women's game will be followed by a 7:30 p.m. men's contest at Northwest's Howard Coliseum.
