A key offensive coaching component of East Mississippi Community College’s 2017 and 2018 national and conference championship teams, Courtland Hays has returned to the Scooba campus as an assistant football coach. The official hiring announcement was made Thursday by EMCC head football coach Buddy Stephens.

Bidding for record-tying football history, five-time NJCAA champion East Mississippi Community College (10-2) will take on reigning national champion Iowa Western Community College (11-1) in Wednesday’s (Dec. 13) NJCAA Division I Football Championship, presented by Zurich Insurance, to be played in Little Rock, Arkansas. Kickoff between the fourth-ranked EMCC Lions and the second-ranked IWCC Reivers is set for 7 p.m. CT at War Memorial Stadium, and the championship matchup will be televised nationally by ESPNU.

The fourth-ranked Lions of East Mississippi Community College earned their sixth appearance in the NJCAA Division I Football Championship Game by claiming a 27-23 road win over top-ranked and previously unbeaten Hutchinson Community College during Saturday afternoon’s national playoff semifinal played at HCC’s Gowans Stadium.

Ty Keyes headlines fourth-ranked EMCC’s 21 selections to the 2023 All-MACCC Football Team

Headlined by MACCC All-North Division Offensive Player of the Year Ty Keyes, the two-time reigning conference champion Lions of East Mississippi Community College placed 21 players on the 2023 All-MACCC Football Team. Selected by a panel of the MACCC’s head football coaches, the league’s first-team, second-team and honorable mention selections were announced Monday by the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference office.

The reigning MACCC champion Lions of East Mississippi Community College claimed their ninth conference championship in the past 15 years under head coach Buddy Stephens by earning a 27-20 home victory over No. 4 Copiah-Lincoln during Saturday’s MACCC Football Championship Game played at EMCC’s Sullivan-Windham Field.
