EMCC’s Quantesha Patterson earns fourth career MACJC Player of the Week hoops honor
Reigning all-region performer Quantesha Patterson has been tabbed MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time in her East Mississippi Community College career for her collective two-game efforts a week ago.
SCOOBA – Reigning all-region performer Quantesha Patterson has been tabbed MACJC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time in her East Mississippi Community College career for her collective two-game efforts a week ago.
A product of East Webster High School, Patterson averaged 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 61 percent (14-23 FGs) from the field and 67 percent (10-15 FTs) from the line last week. She also played the entire 40 minutes during EMCC's home contests against both Coahoma and Northeast Mississippi.
Patterson opened last week by scoring 23 points on 8-of-14 field goals and 7-of-11 free throws, in addition to collecting eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots, during the Lions' 66-61 come-from-behind win over Coahoma. She then capped the week by recording her 11th double-double of the season and 24th of her EMCC career with 15 points (6-9 FGs & 3-4 FTs) and 13 rebounds, along with three steals and a block, in the Lions' 68-60 setback to the division-leading Northeast Lady Tigers.
For the season, Patterson currently ranks as the MACJC's second-leading scorer – behind EMCC freshman teammate Tyeisha Juhan – with an average of 17.9 points per game. The 5-foot-11 sophomore forward stands 14th nationally with a league-leading 10.7 rebounds an outing while also rating third among the NJCAA Division I player ranks by shooting 65.4 percent from the field on the year.
In earning All-Region 23 and MACJC All-State honors a year ago as a freshman, Patterson ranked ninth nationally in scoring average (20.4 ppg) and second in field goal percentage (65.8%), in addition to averaging a team-leading 10.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest. The Maben native was also a three-time MACJC Player of the Week last season for Coach Sharon Thompson's 13-9 EMCC Lions.
Patterson and men's recipient Shunn Buchanan, from Northeast Mississippi, will now be nominated for this week's national awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The East Mississippi basketball teams resume action Thursday at Mississippi Delta with a 6 p.m. women's game followed by an 8 p.m. men's contest in Moorhead.
