EMCC freshman Quantesha Patterson chosen to NJCAA All-Region 23 Women's Basketball Team
East Mississippi Community College freshman sensation Quantesha Patterson has been named to the 2015-16 NJCAA All-Region 23 Women's Basketball Team, as selected by the head women's coaches of the Mississippi and Louisiana junior college ranks.
SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College freshman sensation Quantesha Patterson has been named to the 2015-16 NJCAA All-Region 23 Women's Basketball Team, as selected by the head women's coaches of the Mississippi and Louisiana junior college ranks.
Patterson was one of only two freshmen chosen to this year's 10-member, all-region squad along with Jones County's Tatyana Lofton. A three-time MACJC Player of the Week selection as a freshman, Patterson was also previously named to this year's MACJC All-State/North Division First Team.
This season for head coach Sharon Thompson's 13-9 EMCC Lady Lions, Patterson currently ranks ninth overall among the NJCAA's Division I scoring leaders with an average of 20.4 points per game to also stand second nationally among freshman players. She had four 30-point outings on the year, highlighted by a season-high, 34-point performance at Northwest Mississippi. The Maben native also ranks second among the national leaders by having connected on 65.8 percent (185-of-281 FGs) of her field goals as a collegiate rookie.
While also averaging a team-high 10.6 rebounds per contest, Patterson recorded 13 double-doubles in 22 games for the Lady Lions this season. The product of East Webster High School's 2014-15 Class 2A state championship team also led EMCC as a freshman by averaging 2.2 steals and 1.2 blocked shots an outing.
Also selected to this year's NJCAA All-Region 23 women's basketball squad were Holmes' Aja Williams, Samantha Duncan of East Central, Northwest Mississippi's Sara Lytle, Gabriella Cortez of Southwest Mississippi, Itawamba's Alontra Tucker, along with the Jones County duo of Lofton and Wendion Bibbins as well as the Copiah-Lincoln tandem of Kelley Allen and Alexis Collins.
