EMCC’s Camryn Williams earns second MACJC Softball Player of the Week honor
For the second time this season, East Mississippi Community College’s Camryn Williams has been named the MACJC Softball Player of the Week.
SCOOBA – For the second time this season, East Mississippi Community College's Camryn Williams has been named the MACJC Softball Player of the Week.
Having also previously claimed the MACJC's softball honor during Week 3, Williams batted .818 (9-for-11) in four games last week while reaching base 13 times in 16 plate appearances. For the week, EMCC's freshman first baseman also posted an on-base percentage of .813 and a slugging percentage of 1.636.
Williams began the week by going 5-for-6 at the plate with four doubles and a three-run triple to drive in six runs during the Lions' conference doubleheader sweep (10-1 & 12-2) at Coahoma. She followed by going 4-for-5, including a grand slam, with four walks during last Friday's home twinbill against seventh-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast.
For the season, EMCC's Williams is hitting .406 while currently ranking tied for fifth nationally among the NJCAA Division II batting leaders with six home runs and 27 runs batted in. With an .875 slugging percentage on the year, the White Hall, Arkansas native also has six doubles and three triples while scoring a team-high 16 runs.
Williams and Jones County sophomore pitcher Karli Perque are now nominated for national awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Coach Kyndall White's 9-13 EMCC Lions play host to nationally second-ranked Des Moines Area Community College in a 3 p.m. Tuesday contest on the Scooba campus.
