Former All-Gulf South Conference standout Whitney Hawkins has been named assistant softball coach at East Mississippi Community College, as announced this week by EMCC head softball coach Kyndall White.

East Mississippi Community College sophomores Mallory Vance and Averi Pender have been named to the 2017 MACJC All-State Softball Team, as voted on by the respective head softball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.

EMCC’s softball season draws to a close with best-of-three playoff series setbacks at No. 6 Itawamba
East Mississippi Community College’s softball season came to a close this past weekend by dropping 9-6 and 5-1 decisions at sixth-ranked Itawamba Community College during a best-of-three MACJC playoff series played at the ICC Softball Complex.

EMCC Lions travel to sixth-ranked Itawamba for best-of-three MACJC softball playoff series
Set to make their eighth postseason softball appearance in the last nine years, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College will travel to Fulton this weekend to take on nationally sixth-ranked Itawamba Community College in an MACJC best-of-three playoff series. First pitch for Friday’s single game is set for 5 p.m. at the newly renovated ICC Softball Complex.

EMCC earns softball split at Northwest; Lions to host No. 7 Gulf Coast during Sunday’s Sophomore Day
In a pair of two-run softball decisions that both came down to the final inning, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College earned a conference doubleheader split at Northwest Mississippi Community College by claiming a 6-4 nightcap win Thursday afternoon at Ranger Field. EMCC’s comeback attempt in the first game came up just short with the Rangers holding on for the 7-5 victory.

The Lions of East Mississippi Community College couldn’t solve East Central Community College’s pitching tandem in dropping a home conference doubleheader, 8-3 and 9-1, to the eighth-ranked Warriors Friday afternoon at the EMCC Softball Field.

EMCC Lions drop pair of home softball decisions to No. 9 Itawamba
Coming up just short in conference softball nightcap action, the Lions of East Mississippi Community College fell twice at home Tuesday to ninth-ranked Itawamba Community College. Following ICC’s 10-4 win in the opening contest, EMCC took the visiting Indians to the final out in the second game before dropping a tough 5-4 decision at the EMCC Softball Field.

A four-run seventh inning in the second game enabled East Mississippi Community College to earn a road softball doubleheader split with Hinds Community College Saturday afternoon. The Lions’ 8-7 comeback win in the nightcap followed a 5-3 setback to the Eagles in the opening game at Rene Warren Field.
