Host EMCC claims fourth-place men’s team finish at 12th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo in Meridian
Dylan Delmas’ first-place effort in the steer wrestling event helped pace the East Mississippi Community College rodeo team to a fourth-place men’s finish this past weekend in EMCC’s 12th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo. The three-day, spring-opening Ozark Region rodeo concluded Saturday evening at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center.
MERIDIAN — Dylan Delmas' first-place effort in the steer wrestling event helped pace the East Mississippi Community College rodeo team to a fourth-place men's finish this past weekend in EMCC's 12th Annual Intercollegiate Rodeo. The three-day, spring-opening Ozark Region rodeo concluded Saturday evening at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center.
Delmas posted times of 4.5 and 5.5 seconds to earn top honors in average and claim 150 team points for the Lions. The Athens, Alabama product also paired with teammate Waylon Buskirk (Shannon, MS) to collect 40 points apiece following a 7.0-second effort in the first round of the team roping competition.
In addition to Delmas earning 190 total team points, Tanner Brown (Florence, MS) garnered 150 total points for the Lions in two separate events. Along with securing 80 team points for the Lions while pairing with former EMCC teammate and current Northwest Mississippi CC cowboy Laine Moore during a fourth-place team roping finish, Brown grabbed 70 more points by placing fifth overall in tie-down roping. Brown and Moore won the opening round of team roping with a first-place effort of 6.6 seconds.
EMCC's 360-point team total was rounded out by Kemper Academy product Matt Watt's 20 points earned in the tie-down roping event.
Missouri Valley College captured the men's team title in the EMCC-hosted rodeo event with 815 total points, while the MVC women finished as runners-up behind the University of West Alabama, 360-245.
Head coach Morgan Goodrich's East Mississippi rodeo teams continue Ozark Region competition in the Magnolia State this week (March 21-23) at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville.
