EMCC Lions place 14th at Gulf Coast-hosted golf tournament at Windance

GULFPORT – The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team placed 14th at this week's MGCCC Fall Invitational. Hosted by top-ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, the two-day, three-round event was held at Windance Country Club.
As one of 17 schools participating in the 54-hole event, the EMCC Lions stood 11th overall following Monday's two-round total of 624 (308-316). They fell three spots after Tuesday's 331 to finish with a 955 total score.
Highlighting EMCC's play once again this week was freshman Lorenzo Ligabue, who recorded his third top 10 individual finish in four tournaments this fall with a seventh-place effort of 6-over-par 222. The Italian native fired rounds of 73 and 74 on Monday to go along with his 75 during Tuesday's final round. Ligabue began his collegiate career with the Lions by previously tying for fifth and seventh place, respectively, earlier this fall at Mossy Oak and Dancing Rabbit.
Also for the Lions this week, Daniel Martin (Parrish, AL/Oakman HS) and Carter Martin (Canton Academy) posted identical round-by-round scores of 76, 80 and 83 to finish in a five-way tie for 53rd place with total scores of 239. The sophomore teammates stood tied for 38th place following Monday's opening rounds.
EMCC's scorecard was rounded out by Kosciusko's Trace Carpenter (83-82-95—260) and Yazoo City native Ben Boggan (88-93-90—271), who finished 89th and tied for 90th, respectively. Competing as an individual, freshman Jack Mohead (Clarksdale/Lee Academy) placed 88th with a 259 total (86-82-91).
Mississippi Gulf Coast's A-team claimed a 22-shot victory over runner-up Roane State (TN) Community College with a total team score of 888 (292-296-300). MGCCC's B-team finished third at 913. East Central's Will Thompson earned individual medalist honors after carding an even-par 216 (74-70-72) over the three rounds of play. MGCCC's Will Burnham finished as runner-up with a 3-over-par 219 (70-76-73).
Head coach Ashton Maddaloni's EMCC Lions are scheduled to close out their fall golf slate with upcoming tournaments hosted by Jefferson State (AL) Community College (Nov. 6-7) and William Carey University (Nov. 14).
