EMCC golfers conclude fall slate with second-place team finish at Pinnacle Trust Invitational
The East Mississippi Community College men’s golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2016-17 season on a high note by placing second at the Belhaven University-hosted Pinnacle Trust Invitational. The two-day tournament concluded Tuesday at Castlewoods Country Club.
BRANDON – The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2016-17 season on a high note by placing second at the Belhaven University-hosted Pinnacle Trust Invitational. The two-day tournament concluded Tuesday at Castlewoods Country Club.
Competing as the only two-year school in the five-team field, head coach Benji Williams' EMCC squad shot rounds of 320 and 325 to finish 20 strokes behind team champion Millsaps College (312-313—625). Covenant College, out of Georgia, placed third (329-331—660), followed by host Belhaven (328-338—666) and Louisiana College (338-339—677).
Leading EMCC once again during the team's fall finale was freshman Joey Partin, who finished third with a two-day score of 152 (73-79) on the 6,706-yard, par-72 layout. Millsaps' Ryan Martin (72-75—147) grabbed overall individual medalist honors with a four-shot victory over teammate Tyler Kastner (78-73—151).
EMCC's Michael McGill finished in a four-way tie for sixth place with a 160 total (82-78), while fellow Lion sophomore Kent Vaughn placed 14th at 167 (83-84). Freshmen Conner Stevens (85-84—169) and Eli Hemphill (82-92—174) rounded out the Lions' scoreboard in 18th and 20th place, respectively. Competing as an individual, EMCC freshman Cameron Guinn finished 26th (97-90—187).
