EMCC places seventh at MACJC State Golf Championship; Daniel Schroeder earns regional invite

Individually for the Lions, Daniel Schroeder did earn the opportunity to continue his sophomore season on the links by claiming a spot in next week's NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship to be hosted by Northwest Mississippi Community College. Along with garnering MACJC Championship All-Tournament Team honors by finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place at 145, the Baton Rouge, Louisiana native also received one of three invitations awarded to individuals who were able to advance to regionals based on season scoring averages.
After adding a final-round 74 to go along with his opening-day, 1-under-par 71 this past weekend, Schroeder's team-leading 75.57 season stroke average qualified him for next week's NJCAA Region 23 Golf Championship to be held April 25-26 at Back Acres in Senatobia.
As a team, head coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions fell two places from Saturday's opening-round 307 to seventh place after struggling during Sunday's final-round 328. Rounding out East Mississippi's scorecard this past weekend at Shiloh Ridge were freshmen Trae Reeves (76-86—162 for 31st), Cason Collins (79-84—163 for T32nd), Kent Vaughn (81-84—165 for T34th) and Michael McGill (82-86—168 for 38th).
Mississippi Gulf Coast captured the MACJC State Golf Championship team title with an even-par 576 (290-286), while Copiah-Lincoln (294-294—588) earned state runner-up honors. The Bulldogs and Wolfpack will be joined at next week's regional tournament by Meridian (300-292—592), East Central (310-304—614) and host Northwest Mississippi (302-316—618).
MGCCC's Grant Motter claimed individual medalist honors with an 8-under-par 136 (68-68) to finish seven strokes better than Co-Lin's Jason Byrd (73-70—143).
