Youthful EMCC golf team struggles to seventh-place tie in MACJC's second fall event held at Shiloh Ridge
The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team struggled to a seventh-place tie this past weekend at Shiloh Ridge Golf Club during the MACJC's second tournament of the fall slate.
CORINTH – The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team struggled to a seventh-place tie this past weekend at Shiloh Ridge Golf Club during the MACJC's second tournament of the fall slate.
Following an opening-round 307 on Saturday, EMCC carded a 328 Sunday to tie with Itawamba (322-313—635). Meridian Community College (274-286—560) bested runner-up Mississippi Gulf Coast (281-284—565) by five strokes, followed by East Central (286-292—578) in third place. Copiah-Lincoln (295-297—592) finished fourth during the Northeast Mississippi-hosted tournament.
Individually, Meridian's Lance Strickland claimed medalist honors with a two-day 131 (64-67) to finish three strokes better than runner-up Colin Troxler (66-68—134) of Mississippi Gulf Coast.
Coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions were led by the team's lone sophomore Daniel Schroder, who finished in a four-way tie for 12th place with a two-round score of 146 (72-74). Competing individually, EMCC's Trae Reeves tied for 23rd place at 151 (74-77).
Cason Collins tied for 34th with a pair of 79s (158), while fellow Lion freshmen Jace Hobart (79-86—165), Rhett Walters (77-90—167) and Michael McGill (84-89—173) placed 42nd, 44th and 51st, respectively.
The East Mississippi men's golf team resumes action with the MACJC's third fall golf event to be hosted by Copiah-Lincoln, Oct. 3-4, at Wolf Hollow in Wesson.
