EMCC Lions finish fourth at Co-Lin’s Wolf Hollow course during third MACJC spring golf tournament
With three golfers placing among the top 16 individually, the East Mississippi Community College Lions earned a fourth-place team finish at the MACJC’s third golf event of the spring season held Sunday and Monday at Wolf Hollow Golf Course and hosted by Copiah-Lincoln Community College.

Carding nearly identical team scores of 309 and 310 during the two-day event, head coach Dale Peay's EMCC Lions finished eight strokes behind five-time reigning NJCAA Region 23 golf champions Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College (317-294—611). Northwest Mississippi Community College (298-294—592) edged out host Copiah-Lincoln (303-290—593) by a single stroke to capture the team title.
The EMCC Lions were led by the sophomore trio of Nick Davis, Miles Respess and Caleb Westmoreland. Davis, of Springville, Ala., fired a pair of 3-over-par 75s to finish in a three-way tie for seventh place at 150. Respess, from Paragould, Ark., improved two strokes with a final-round 75 to stand 11th (77-75—152). Entering the weekend leading the MACJC in stroke average, Westmoreland, of Columbus' Heritage Academy, settled for 16th place by shooting a pair of 77s for a 154 two-day total.
Co-Lin's Corbin May (72-66—138) took individual medalist honors by carding a 6-under-par 66 on Monday to out-distance runner-up Jack Byrd (70-74—144) of Northwest Mississippi by those six strokes.
Rounding out EMCC's scorecard were Matt Belk and Chase Smith, who posted identical rounds of 80 and 83 to finish in a five-way tie for 37th place at 163. Competing as an individual, Lion freshman John Pittman added a two-day total of 173 (82-91) for a 52nd-place showing.
The fourth stop of the MACJC's spring golf schedule will take place, March 25-26, at North Creek Golf Course in Southaven on Monday and at Wedgewood Golfers' Club in Olive Branch on Tuesday.
