Trio of EMCC basketball standouts tabbed MACJC All-State First Team
Three East Mississippi Community College basketball players have been named MACJC All-State First Team for their season-long efforts this past year. Repeat women’s honoree Quantesha Patterson and freshman teammate Tyeisha Juhan along with sophomore men’s recipient David McFarland were chosen by the respective head basketball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
SCOOBA – Three East Mississippi Community College basketball players have been named MACJC All-State First Team for their season-long efforts this past year. Repeat women's honoree Quantesha Patterson and freshman teammate Tyeisha Juhan along with sophomore men's recipient David McFarland were chosen by the respective head basketball coaches of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges.
Also a two-time NJCAA All-Region 23 selection, Patterson averaged 17.7 points per game and ranked second in the MACJC with 10.4 rebounds an outing for head coach Sharon Thompson's EMCC Lions this past season. Patterson rated third nationally by shooting 63.7 percent from the field in addition to averaging 2.0 steals and 1.3 blocked shots per contest as a sophomore.
Patterson, a 5-foot-11 forward, averaged 19.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.3 blocks per game for her EMCC career while shooting 64.9 percent from the field. The East Webster High School product recorded 26 career double-doubles while starting all 44 games at East Mississippi. Having garnered four MACJC Player of the Week honors during her two seasons on the Scooba campus, Patterson concluded her EMCC playing career by participating in last week's MACJC Women's Basketball All-Star Game in Decatur.
Juhan, a freshman guard from Jonesboro, Georgia, ranked No. 9 nationally among the NJCAA Division I women's scorers with an MACJC-leading 20.2 points per game this past year. With five double-doubles on the season as a two-time MACJC Player of the Week recipient, Juhan also averaged 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.9 assists an outing. The former Mount Zion High School standout shot 45 percent overall from the field, 30 percent from beyond the three-point arc and 74 percent from the free throw line as a collegiate rookie for the EMCC Lions.
On the men's side, McFarland led head coach Billy Begley's EMCC Lions in scoring (17.3 ppg) and rebounding (6.2 rpg) this past season as the lone team member to start all 21 games. With nine 20-point outings and three double-doubles as a sophomore, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound McFarland also shot 49 percent overall from the field, 40 percent from three-point range, including a team-high 52 made 3-pointers, and 77 percent from the charity stripe. The Raymond High School product will continue his collegiate career at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville of the Ohio Valley Conference.
