SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College sophomore David McFarland has earned MACJC Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his two-game efforts a week ago for the Lions.
A product of Raymond High School, McFarland averaged 26.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists for head coach Billy Begley's EMCC squad last week. He also shot 57 percent (17-30 FGs) from the field, 55 percent (6-11 treys) from three-point range and 87 percent (13-15 FTs) from the free throw line during the week.
McFarland, 6-foot-4 and 180 pounds, opened the week by recording his second double-double of the season with a career-high 30 points (10-19 FGs & 8-8 FTs) and 10 rebounds in last Monday's 82-81 home loss to Wallace-Selma. The swing-position player followed with 23 points, including 7-of-11 shooting and 4-of-5 accuracy from beyond the arc, along with totaling eight rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block in the Lions' 76-62 win at East Central on Thursday.
For the 3-1 Lions on the season, McFarland is EMCC's leading scorer (20.8 ppg) and top rebounder (8.0 rpg), while shooting 46 percent overall from the field, 33 percent from the three-point arc and 84 percent from the charity stripe.
McFarland and MACJC Women's Player of the Week Kayla Rogers of Coahoma are now nominated for national awards from the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
The EMCC basketball teams are back in action Thursday on the road in a doubleheader rematch against Wallace Community College Selma.
