East Mississippi to be well represented in Friday’s ECCC-hosted MACJC All-Star Basketball Games
East Mississippi Community College will be well represented during Friday’s Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Basketball Games in Decatur. Along with EMCC head coaches Billy Begley and Sharon Thompson serving as the MACJC North Division head coaches during the respective men’s and women’s games, Lion sophomores Juan Davis Jr., Ki-Ki Patterson and Tianna Germain are also slated to participate.
SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College will be well represented during Friday's Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-Star Basketball Games in Decatur. Along with EMCC head coaches Billy Begley and Sharon Thompson serving as the MACJC North Division head coaches during the respective men's and women's games, Lion sophomores Juan Davis Jr., Ki-Ki Patterson and Tianna Germain are also slated to participate.
Set to be hosted by East Central Community College, a 5 p.m. women's all-star contest will be followed by a 7 p.m. men's game at the Brackeen-Wood Gym.
Davis, from West Point, averaged 11.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and a team-high 1.3 blocks per game as a second-team all-state selection for the 20-9 Lions this past season. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward shot a club-best 56 percent from the field, including 17 made 3-pointers, and 67 percent from the charity stripe as a sophomore. Davis was also chosen to this year's NJCAA All-Region 23 Tournament team after helping lead the EMCC Lions to the region tourney title game and an appearance in the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas.
Patterson, a former PARADE All-American from Columbus High School, was a two-time, first-team all-state performer for East Mississippi. She averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.8 steals per contest this past year for the 13-9 Lady Lions. Patterson also shot 45 percent from the field and 64 percent from the free throw line as a sophomore.
Germain, from Savannah, Georgia, averaged 8.0 points and a team-most 4.4 assists an outing as a 22-game starter at point guard for the Lady Lions after transferring from Kennesaw State University. Along with also averaging 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game this past season, Germain connected on 39 percent of her field goals and 64 percent of her free throws during her sophomore year.
Hinds Community College will serve as head coaches of the MACJC South Division teams.
Friday's MACJC All-Star Basketball Games, from the East Central Community College campus, are scheduled to be live-streamed at www.holmesccmedia.com with Steve Diffey calling the play-by-play action for both contests.
