EMCC Lions to close out calendar year by competing in Best Western Holiday Classic hoops tourney in Tallahassee, Fla.

SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College men's basketball team will draw the curtains on the 2013 calendar year by participating in the Best Western Holiday Classic, Dec. 30-31, hosted by Tallahassee Community College. The two-day tournament will take place Monday and Tuesday at TCC's Bill Hebrock Eagledome.
Set to take on a pair of 10-win teams from the highly competitive Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA), head coach Mark White's 5-1 EMCC Lions are slated to open the holiday hoops tournament by meeting the host Eagles of Tallahassee Community College (10-4) in Monday's nightcap at 7:30 p.m. EST. The following day, East Mississippi will battle the Eastern Florida State College Titans (10-3), guided by former EMCC assistant coach Jeremy Shulman, in a scheduled 2 p.m. EST contest.
Both East Mississippi men's basketball games from the Tallahassee CC-hosted tournament are slated to be video-streamed live via EMCC's athletics website – www.EMCCAthletics.com – by accessing the Live Video link (http://www.ustream.tv/channel/emcc-basketball). EMCC media director Derek Cody will be calling the play-by-play action for both of the Lions' tournament contests in Tallahassee.
Nearly three weeks removed from their last basketball competition, the EMCC Lions most recently claimed a 63-41 home victory over Baton Rouge Community College back on Dec. 10 in Scooba. Along with having swept BRCC this season with a 75-65 road win, East Mississippi has split a pair of games with Wallace State-Hanceville (73-69 win & 78-71 loss). The Lions' other victories thus far this season have come against rivals Meridian (82-76) on the road and at home versus East Central (87-69).
Other men's games scheduled for this week's basketball tournament in Tallahassee will pit Eastern Florida State against Gadsden State on Monday (3 p.m. EST) along with home-standing Tallahassee playing host to Gadsden State in the tourney finale on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. EST).
The year-ending junior college hoops event will also include women's competition featuring host Tallahassee CC along with Pensacola State, Central Georgia Tech and Hillsborough. Women's tournament action in Tallahassee will take place Monday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. EST as well as Tuesday at noon and 4:30 p.m. EST.
