East Mississippi’s Diamante Pounds and Tyeisha Juhan earn MACJC gridiron and hardwood honors
In recognition of their recent outstanding individual performances, East Mississippi Community College football player Diamante Pounds and women’s basketball player Tyeisha Juhan have been accorded respective MACJC Player of the Week honors.
SCOOBA – In recognition of their recent outstanding individual performances, East Mississippi Community College football player Diamante Pounds and women's basketball player Tyeisha Juhan have been accorded respective MACJC Player of the Week honors.
Pounds, a sophomore linebacker, was credited with 18 total tackles (14 solos & 4 assists), including a pair of tackles for loss, in the Lions' 27- 24 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast in the MACJC State Semifinals played this past Saturday in Scooba. The former Saltillo High School standout also had a 41-yard interception return and a quarterback hurry against the Bulldogs to collect the league's weekly defensive honor.
On the hardwood this past week, Juhan, a freshman guard, averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in her first two collegiate games to open the basketball season. The Jonesboro , Georgia native had 22 points and eight rebounds during her collegiate debut last week at Lawson State and then followed with 21 points and nine rebounds in the Lions' 79-57 home win over rival Meridian Community College.
Coach Buddy Stephens' third-ranked and 9-1 EMCC Lions will compete for their fifth MACJC state football championship Saturday afternoon against the reigning national and state champion Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. at Sullivan-Windham Field on the Scooba campus.
Coach Sharon Thompson's 3-0 EMCC women will join Billy Begley's 2-1 Lions in Thursday doubleheader basketball action at East Central Community College. A 5:30 p.m. women's contest will precede a 7:30 p.m. men's game at Brackeen-Wood Gymnasium in Decatur.
