East Mississippi's Allenzae Staggers doubles up by also earning NJCAA Special Teams POTW recognition
Sophomore wide receiver Allenzae Staggers of seventh-ranked East Mississippi Community College reeled in his second individual accolade in as many days by earning NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week honors, as announced Wednesday by the national office headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
SCOOBA – Sophomore wide receiver Allenzae Staggers of seventh-ranked East Mississippi Community College reeled in his second individual accolade in as many days by earning NJCAA Special Teams Player of the Week honors, as announced Wednesday by the national office headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Having garnered the same recognition statewide earlier in the week by a vote of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges' sports information directors, Staggers amassed 267 all-purpose yards while scoring four times during last week's 69-0 MACJC North Division home victory over Coahoma. The Wilkinson County High School product ran back six punts for 169 total yards, including returns of 81 and 35 yards for touchdowns. Staggers also had a team-most four catches for 98 receiving yards against the Tigers with scoring grabs of 44 and 41 yards.
Coach Buddy Stephens' 2-1 EMCC Lions hit the road to take on Northeast Mississippi Community College Thursday in Booneville. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at NEMCC's Tiger Stadium.
Joining EMCC's Staggers for NJCAA football honors this week were Rochester quarterback Nick Rooney and Butler linebacker DeMarcus Lloyd.
