SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College freshman shortstop Tyler Miller has been named MACJC Baseball Player of the Week for his outstanding week at the plate for the Lions.
This past week during doubleheaders versus Holmes and seventh-ranked Pearl River, Miller batted .429 (6-for-14) with three home runs, 11 runs batted in and four runs scored to raise his team-leading batting average to .340 on the year along with club-high totals of seven homers and 32 RBIs for the season.
After hitting a grand slam in the opening game against Holmes last Wednesday in Scooba, Miller followed with a two-homer contest during the first game of Sunday's rescheduled and relocated doubleheader in Poplarville. A first-inning solo shot was followed by a three-run blast in the eighth inning against the PRCC Wildcats.
Selected in the 23rd round of last year's Major League Baseball Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates out of Spanish Fort (Ala.) High School, Miller has 18 extra-base hits (seven homers, six doubles and five triples) as an EMCC freshman to account for his team-best 73 total bases and .689 slugging percentage on the season. He also leads the club with 21 runs scored as the only player to have started all 28 games for head coach Brett Kimbrel's EMCC Lions.
Miller becomes the second East Mississippi baseball player to collect weekly conference honors this season. Fellow Spanish Fort (Ala.) product Jaxen Forrester garnered MACJC Pitcher of the Week recognition two weeks ago after throwing a no-hitter against East Central.
