SCOOBA – East Mississippi Community College freshman right-hander Jaxen Forrester has earned national honors as the NJCAA Division II Baseball Pitcher of the Week for his three-hit, complete-game shutout against the University of West Alabama's junior varsity team. He also received state recognition as the MACJC Pitcher of the Week.
Forrester, from Spanish Fort, Alabama, struck out nine and walked three over seven innings to pick up his first collegiate victory during last week's 2-0 nightcap road win over the Tigers. After scattering three hits during the early innings and working out of a bases-loaded jam in the third, Forrester faced just one batter over the minimum during the final four frames. Eight of his nine strikeouts in the contest were recorded over those last four innings.
For the season, Forrester is 1-1 with a 4.12 earned run average during his first four collegiate starts on the mound. He has fanned 22 batters in 19.2 total innings while limiting the opposition to just a .174 collective batting average on the year.
Coming off Tuesday's home doubleheader split with Shelton State, head coach Chris Rose's 7-7 EMCC Lions are scheduled to take on the University of West Alabama's junior varsity team in a 1 p.m. Sunday doubleheader at UWA's Tartt Field in Livingston.
