Former multi-sport athlete from Mississippi’s Gulf Coast region, Gage Billings is in his first season as an assistant coach on Mackenzie Byrd’s East Mississippi Community College softball coaching staff.

Assisting in all aspects of EMCC’s softball coaching and recruiting responsibilities, Billings owns coaching experience in both softball and baseball after previously lettering multiple years in soccer, baseball and football at d’Iberville High School. The 2016 DHS graduate earned all-district prep honors and back-to-back defensive player of the year soccer accolades. On the diamond, Billings also helped lead the Warriors to a district runner-up baseball finish as a senior outfielder.

Billings began his collegiate playing career as a soccer and baseball signee at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Following a year at the Wesson-based school, he transferred to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, where as a student assistant coach for the Bulldogs he further developed his coaching experience under MGCCC Athletics Hall of Fame softball coach Kenneth Long and former MGCCC baseball coach Wes Thigpen.

While at Gulf Coast, Billings also gained valuable coaching knowledge working alongside former MGCCC and Ole Miss standout softball pitcher Kaitlin Lee as well as former MGCCC assistant softball coach Shelbee Sowders, who pitched collegiately at Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Miss.

During recent years in addition to working various camps and training prospects, Billings obtained additional coaching experience working for the Snopek Baseball Group (SBG) Sox. This past year, he returned to his prep alma mater and worked as an assistant baseball coach at d’Iberville High School under the guidance of former MGCCC standout middle infielder Brent Martin.
