SCOOBA – The East Mississippi Community College women's basketball team posted its second sizeable victory over Coastal Alabama-North within a two-week span by coasting to a 92-48 home triumph over the Lady Eagles during Thursday night action played at Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
Two weeks ago in Monroeville, Alabama, the EMCC Lady Lions breezed to an 87-35 road win over Coastal Alabama-North during second-day tournament action at the Lady Eagle Classic. The two meetings were decided by a composite total of 96 points.
Following a sluggish start during Thursday's rematch, EMCC steadily turned an early 7-2 deficit into a double-digit lead (21-9) by the end of the opening quarter with separate runs of 10 and nine unanswered points. A 12-0 spurt midway through the second quarter helped extend the Lady Lions' lead to 30 points (50-20) late in the half on the way to a 50-23 halftime advantage.
The rout continued following the break as EMCC head coach Sharon Thompson emptied her bench to grant meaningful minutes to all 14 players. The margin reached the 40-point mark (85-44) on a Tye Metcalf basket midway through the final period en route to the 44-point final outcome.
As a team for the game, the Lady Lions shot 55 percent (37-67 FGs) from the field and 75 percent (15-20 FTs) from the charity stripe.
Three of EMCC's four double-digit scorers on the night came off the bench. With freshman starter Ja'Mia Hollings leading the way with 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field and 4-of-4 accuracy from the line, the Lady Lions also received 13 points and five assists from Metcalf. Hollings, out of West Point, also contributed seven rebounds and five steals in the winning effort. Jackson State transfer guard Taylor Lattimore followed with 12 points and four steals, while freshman center Julia Franks added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and six rebounds in a reserve role.
Lasharia Everett led all scorers with 18 points for the visiting Lady Eagles.
