EMCC frosh Quantesha Patterson earns MACJC Player of the Week hoops honor for second time
For the second time in three weeks to begin the current hoops campaign, East Mississippi Community College freshman Quantesha Patterson has been selected the MACJC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her two-game efforts a week ago.
SCOOBA – For the second time in three weeks to begin the current hoops campaign, East Mississippi Community College freshman Quantesha Patterson has been selected the MACJC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her two-game efforts a week ago.
Patterson, who previously earned the league's weekly honor to tip off the season, most recently averaged 21 points, 14 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots while also shooting 55 percent (16-of-29 FGs) from the field and 71 percent (10-of-14 FTs) from the line this past week. She opened last week with 28 points (10-19 FGs & 8-11 FTs) and a season-high 15 rebounds, including six offensive boards, along with collecting four steals and three blocks in EMCC's 74-73 home loss to Lawson State. Patterson then followed by recording her third double-double of the young season with 14 points (6-10 FGs & 2-3 FTs) and 13 rebounds this past Thursday during the Lady Lions' 46-44 win at Pearl River.
A product of reigning MHSAA Class 2A state champion East Webster High School, Patterson presently leads all NJCAA Division I women's players by averaging 25.2 points per game on the year, which includes consecutive 31-point performances during prior wins over rival foes Meridian and East Central. The 5-foot-11 forward also currently tops the MACJC and is tied for 22nd nationally with an average of 10.6 rebounds per contest. Along with averaging 3.2 steals and 2.0 blocked shots an outing for head coach Sharon Thompson's 4-1 EMCC Lady Lions, Patterson is also connecting on 62 percent of her field goal attempts and 69 percent from the charity stripe for the season.
Patterson, along with repeat MACJC men's honoree Daryl Macon of Holmes, are now both nominated for national honors by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
EMCC's Lady Lions will return to action following the Thanksgiving holiday break by taking on Talladega College's junior varsity team in a rematch contest to be played on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in Talladega, Alabama.
Coach Billy Begley's unbeaten (6-0) East Mississippi Lions will return to the hardwood on Monday, Nov. 30, by playing host to Faith Prep Academy on the Scooba campus. Tip-off time is set for 6 p.m. at EMCC's Keyes T. Currie Coliseum.
