EMCC Lady Lions dominate in 15-0, 15-1 run-rule softball doubleheader sweep over visiting Coahoma

SCOOBA – In their MACJC North Division home softball opener, the Lady Lions of East Mississippi Community College combined for 30 runs on 20 hits in run-ruling visiting Coahoma Community College, 15-0 and 15-1, Wednesday afternoon at the EMCC Softball Field.
Highlighted by 10 extra-base hits during the doubleheader sweep, EMCC scored multiple runs off the Lady Tigers in all seven innings contested on the day. The opener went only three innings with the Lady Lions scoring five in the first, six in the second and four in the third. In the nightcap, EMCC tallied two scores in the first and fourth frames with seven and four runs, respectively, in the second and third innings.
With the home team reaching Coahoma pitching for a dozen hits in game one, sophomore southpaw Tori Seymour was the game's standout performer with a 3-for-3 outing at the plate and a winning effort in the circle. The D'Iberville product drove home three runs and scored three others, while improving her pitching record to 3-1 on the year by allowing only two hits and fanning three during her abbreviated three-inning stint due to the run rule.
In the opener, Taylor Hackney knocked in three runs with a double and a triple. Kasey Stanfield, a New Hope High School product, also had two hits, a pair of stolen bases and two runs scored in game one.
The nightcap featured continued dominance by the home team as the Lady Lions out-hit Coahoma, 8-1. From the lead-off position, Brooksville's Corey Dawkins went 2-for-2 with a triple and four runs scored in game two. Anna McCrary, also from New Hope, delivered a bases-clearing double to highlight EMCC's seven-run second inning.
In the circle, freshman right-hander Logan Smith, of Odenville, Ala., earned her first collegiate victory in three decisions by striking out 10 Coahoma batters and allowing just the one hit over four innings of work.
Evening their division record to 2-2 with the home sweep over Coahoma, head coach Kyndall White's 13-11 EMCC Lady Lions travel to Goodman to meet Holmes Community College in a Friday doubleheader slated to begin at 3 p.m.
