EMCC rodeo teams place seventh in men's competition and tied for fourth on women's side at Northwest Mississippi
Nearing the completion of the collegiate rodeo campaign, the East Mississippi Community College men's team placed seventh and the EMCC women tied for fourth at the Ozark Region's ninth stop of the 2012-13 rodeo season held this past weekend at Northwest Mississippi Community College's Multipurpose Arena.
SENATOBIA – Nearing the completion of the collegiate rodeo campaign, the East Mississippi Community College men's team placed seventh and the EMCC women tied for fourth at the Ozark Region's ninth stop of the 2012-13 rodeo season held this past weekend at Northwest Mississippi Community College's Multipurpose Arena.
The 10th and final rodeo on this year's National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Ozark Region regular-season schedule will be hosted this week (Thursday-Saturday) by the University of Tennessee at Martin.
At the annual NWCC-hosted Ranger Rodeo event, the Lions received all of their 150 team points on sophomore Shane Overby's first-place finish in the calf roping competition. The Raleigh High School product bettered his 9.9-second effort in the long-go with an 8.8-second showing in the short-go to account for his event-best 18.7 average score.
Current NIRA Ozark Region team leader UT Martin dominated the men's competition at the Northwest Mississippi rodeo by amassing 1,110 team points. Missouri Valley College and Southern Arkansas University finished a distant second and third with 340 and 320 points, respectively.
The host Northwest Mississippi Lady Rangers claimed the women's team title with 275 points. Region women's team leader Troy University earned runner-up honors with 210 points, followed by Missouri Valley's third-place total of 170 points.
EMCC's 130 points on the women's side, which tied with UT Martin, all came courtesy of sophomore Kellie Hailey of Macon. The former Central Academy standout received 115 points for her third-place finish in the goat tying competition. Her other 15 points were awarded in the barrel racing event.
