Host EMCC Lions look to MACJC State Golf Championship after placing seventh at Lion Hills
The host Lions of East Mississippi Community College placed seventh this past weekend at the final regular-season golf tournament of the MACJC’s spring schedule. The two-day event concluded Sunday at Lion Hills.
COLUMBUS – The host Lions of East Mississippi Community College placed seventh this past weekend at the final regular-season golf tournament of the MACJC's spring schedule. The two-day event concluded Sunday at Lion Hills.
EMCC and the rest of the MACJC field will now focus on this weekend's (April 9-10) MACJC State Golf Championship to be played Sunday and Monday at Wolf Hollow in Wesson.
During the MACJC's regular-season finale, the EMCC Lions carded rounds of 314 and 322 to finish four strokes behind Itawamba (316-316—632) for the tournament and six shots behind fifth-place East Central (319-311—630). Copiah-Lincoln (295-292—587) captured team honors at the EMCC-hosted tournament with a 12-stroke victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast (292-307—599). Meridian placed third with a two-day score of 600 (295-305).
Co-Lin's Joseph Dendy (66-72—138) held off Colin Troxler of Mississippi Gulf Coast (69-70—139) by one stroke to claim individual medalist honors.
Coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions were once again led by freshman Joey Partin, who tied for 18th place with a two-round total of 154 (76-78). From Prairieville, Louisiana, Partin enters this weekend's MACJC State Championship in fifth place among the MACJC's scoring average leaders with a season stroke average of 74.58.
EMCC sophomore Kent Vaughn fired a pair of 79s to finish in 25th place, while freshman teammates Eli Hemphill (78-85—163) and Cameron Guinn (81-83—164) tied for 36th and 38th place, respectively. Conner Stevens (85-82—167) placed 42nd to round out the Lions' scorecard for the weekend. Making his EMCC playing debut, freshman Kayden Riding (97-89—186) finished 53rd competing as an individual.
