East Mississippi to host MACJC spring golf opener this weekend at Lion Hills in Columbus
East Mississippi Community College earns the honor of teeing off the MACJC's 2016 golf slate by hosting the league's first spring tournament this weekend at Lion Hills in Columbus. The two-day event will begin Saturday morning at 8 a.m. with a scheduled 9 a.m. shotgun start on Sunday.

Along with the Lions of East Mississippi, MACJC member schools scheduled to participate this weekend at EMCC's Lions Hills are Copiah-Lincoln, East Central, Hinds, Itawamba, Meridian, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Northeast Mississippi and Northwest Mississippi.
Coach Benji Williams' youthful EMCC golf squad is comprised of just one sophomore, Daniel Schroeder of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, along with freshmen Cason Collins (Baldwyn), Michael McGill (D'Iberville), Trae Reeves (Vancleave), Kent Vaughn (Ackerman), and Alex Benge (Llano, TX).
This weekend's spring opener will mark EMCC's seventh competition of the 2015-16 golf season. The Lions played in four MACJC fall tournaments as well as participating in non-conference events hosted by Wallace State last August and Faulkner State this past February.
April will remain a very busy month for the EMCC golf team. After competing in the one-day (April 7) Honesty Pays Invitational next Thursday at Patrick Farms in Jackson, the Lions will participate in the final regular-season conference event, April 11-12, at Briarwood in Meridian. The month will conclude with the MACJC State Championship, April 16-17, at Shiloh Ridge in Corinth, followed by the NJCAA Region 23 Championship, April 25-26, at Back Acres in Senatobia.
