East Mississippi concludes fall golf season sixth among participating MACJC teams at Grand Bear
Cutting 21 strokes off their opening-round score, the East Mississippi Community College Lions concluded the fall portion of the MACJC's 2015-16 golf schedule by placing sixth among league schools participating in this week's tournament held at Grand Bear.
SAUCIER – Cutting 21 strokes off their opening-round score, the East Mississippi Community College Lions concluded the fall portion of the MACJC's 2015-16 golf schedule by placing sixth among league schools participating in this week's tournament held at Grand Bear.
Coach Benji Williams' freshman-laden EMCC Lions carded a 319 team score during Tuesday's final-round action to finish at 659 for the two days and in 12th place overall. Featuring eight MACJC teams and six other schools from outside Mississippi, the 14-team field was headed by host Mississippi Gulf Coast, who beat Spring Hill College in a sudden death playoff.
MGCCC and Spring Hill tied at 577, followed by third-place Faulkner State (608) as well as Andrew College (610) and East Central (612) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Gulf Coast's "B" team placed seventh (627) ahead of Copiah-Lincoln (630) and Hinds (630). Northwest Mississippi (660) and Northeast Mississippi (688) rounded out the tournament field.
Spring Hill's Wesley Hunter (72-68—140) claimed individual medalist honors one stroke ahead of a trio of runners-up, including his teammate Kalle Nisson (75-66—141) and the MGCCC tandem of Grant Motter (71-70—141) and Colin Troxler (68-73—141).
Individually for East Mississippi, sophomore Daniel Schroder again paced the Lions by tying for 25th place after firing a final-round 75 to go along with his opening-round 81.
EMCC freshmen Trae Reeves (87-81—168) and Michael McGill (83-85—168) tied for 53rd place, while Kent Vaughn (89-83—172) and Cason Collins (93-80—173) finished in 60th and 64th place, respectively. Competing as an individual, EMCC's Jace Hobart (91-80—171) tied for 58th place.
The 2015-16 MACJC golf schedule is slated to resume, March 7-8, at the NJCAA Region 23 preview event to be hosted by Northwest Mississippi at Back Acres in Senatobia.
