East Mississippi finishes seventh in MACJC's third fall golf tournament held at Wolf Hollow in Wesson

Coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions shaved two strokes off Saturday's team score to finish the MACJC's third fall golf event with a 654 total (328-326). Meridian Community College (285-289—574) claimed the team title with a 10-stroke victory over runner-up Mississippi Gulf Coast (298-286—584). Host Co-Lin (307-287—594) placed third, followed by East Central (308-306—614), Hinds (316-321—637) and Itawamba (331-322—653). Northwest Mississippi (347-320—667) finished eighth.
Co-Lin's Philip Heine collected individual medalist honors Sunday by adding a 4-under-par 68 to Saturday's 2-under 70 to earn the 2-stroke victory over Meridian's Lance Strickland (67-73—140). MCC teammate Grant Renegar finished third with a two-day score of 143 (72-71).
Individually for EMCC, lone sophomore Daniel Schroder earned team honors by tying for 19th place with a 154 (76-78) total. Freshmen Trae Reeves (83-81—164), Michael McGill (89-77—166) and Kent Vaughn (86-82—168) placed 34th, 38th and 41st, respectively. Fellow Lion newcomers Cason Collins (83-87—170) and Jace Hobart (88-85—173) rounded out the EMCC scorecard.
East Mississippi will close out the fall golf campaign by competing in the Mississippi Gulf Coast Fall Invitational, Oct. 26-27, at Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier.
