EMCC places sixth at MACJC's second spring golf tournament held jointly at Eagle Ridge and Wolf Hollow
The East Mississippi Community College men's golf team finished sixth this past weekend at the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges' second event of the spring season. The two-day MACJC tournament concluded Sunday at Wolf Hollow.

Coach Benji Williams' EMCC Lions stood in fifth place following Saturday's 316 team score at Eagle Ridge. They dropped a notch Sunday within the 10-team field after carding a collective 318 at Wolf Hollow.
For the second straight tournament to begin the spring, Mississippi Gulf Coast bested runner-up Copiah-Lincoln and third-place Meridian to claim the team title. The Bulldogs carded a two-day total of 595 (299-296) to finish eight strokes ahead of Co-Lin (309-294—603). Meridian came in at 619 (306-313), followed by East Central (314-309—623) and Northwest Mississippi (329-304—633) in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Individually, Gulf Coast's Grant Motter (72-71—143) claimed individual medalist honors for the second straight MACJC event by earning a 3-stroke victory over Jacob Ross (76-70—146) of Co-Lin. East Central's Andrew Joiner (73-75—148) and Jordan Cole of Hinds (75-73—148) tied for third-place honors.
For East Mississippi, sophomore Hunter Harmon, from Vardaman, fired identical rounds of 76 to finish in a four-way tie for seventh place to pace the Lions. A year ago, the Calhoun Academy product represented EMCC at the 2014 NJCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship.
Ridgeland's Steven Eilders shaved three strokes off Saturday's round with a 75 Sunday to tie three others at 153 for the weekend. Fellow EMCC sophomore Trent Humber, of Caledonia, also improved his score from Saturday's 81 to 79 Sunday to complete the two-day tournament in a 27th-place tie.
Rounding out East Mississippi's scorecard in the MACJC's second golf event of the spring, sophomore Chase Chitwood (84-88—172) and freshman Daniel Schroder (81-93—174) struggled to finish the tournament in 52nd and 53rd place, respectively.
The EMCC men's golf team is scheduled to next compete at the Ron Marshall Spring Fling Tournament, March 12-14, in an NJCAA preview event to be held at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro, Ala.
