Bio

Former University of West Alabama standout signal-caller Harry Satterwhite is in his second year on Buddy Stephens’ East Mississippi Community College football coaching staff.

A year ago in his first season as EMCC’s quarterbacks coach, Satterwhite’s addition on staff was instrumental in the Lions’ continued success on the offensive side of the ball. With two-time NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week Eli Anderson and Texas A&M-Commerce signee Peter Parrish behind center last season, the 2022 MACCC champion Lions ranked third in NJCAA Division I scoring offense with a conference-leading 36.4 points per game. Last year’s EMCC squad also tied for second nationally with a league-high 26 passing touchdowns, along with finishing fifth among the NJCAA team statistical leaders in both passing offense (258.8 yds/gm) and total offense (417.7 yds/gm).

Following his productive playing career (2015-18) for head coach Brett Gilliland’s UWA Tigers, Satterwhite stayed on the Livingston campus as a graduate assistant coach during the 2019 campaign. Satterwhite spent the 2020 and 2021 football seasons serving in the same capacity on the defensive side of the ball at the University of South Alabama.

Having redshirted the 2014 season at West Alabama, Satterwhite exploded onto the collegiate scene during his junior year as one of 10 finalists for the 2017 Harlon Hill Award – the NJCAA Division II equivalent to the Heisman Trophy. While setting single-season school records for most passing yards (3,421) and pass completion percentage (.651) along with most pass completions (322) and attempts (495), Satterwhite was named the Alabama Sports Writers Small College Athlete of the Year. In guiding the 10-3 Tigers to their first outright conference championship in five years and a quarterfinal-round appearance in the 2017 NCAA Division II playoffs, he was named to the All-Gulf South Conference First Team. Along with earning honorable mention status on the Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-American Team and the D2Football.com All-American Team in 2017, Satterwhite was also selected to the Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region Two Second Team.

Satterwhite followed up his senior season to direct the 8-4 Tigers to a second straight NCAA Division II playoff appearance. As a graduate student and second-year permanent team captain, he completed 233-of-394 passes for 2,663 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2018.

Satterwhite completed his playing career at West Alabama ranked second on the school’s all-time lists with 7,450 career passing yards and 67 touchdowns thrown. In addition, he is the Tigers’ all-time leader in career pass completions (677) and attempts (1,106).

Upon completing his undergraduate degree work at West Alabama, Satterwhite went on to earn his master’s degree in business administration from South Alabama during his graduate coaching days.

A prep standout at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile, Ala., Satterwhite was named to the 2013 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Team after completing 185-of-291 (64%) passes for 2,615 yards and 27 touchdowns as a senior after leading the Yellow Jackets to the Class 6A semifinals. He was also a two-time recipient of the school’s Scholar-Athlete Award while lettering in football and baseball.

Satterwhite has also served as a camp counselor at the prestigious Manning Passing Academy held annually at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.
