Bio

Webb Hamilton is in his first season of his second stint on head coach Buddy Stephens’ football coaching staff at East Mississippi Community College. He primarily works with EMCC’s linebackers and oversees the Lions’ strength and conditioning program.

A native of Starkville, Miss., and a graduate of Mississippi State University, Hamilton served as an assistant coach during EMCC’s 2013 undefeated national championship season. Since his previous stint on the Scooba campus, Hamilton spent five years at Troy University, one season at Navarro College and most recently at Petal (Miss.) High School.

This past year at Petal, Hamilton served as the Panthers’ co-special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach. He helped mentor kicker/punter Nate Jones, who signed with Mississippi College and was a Bernard Blackwell All-Star selection.

Prior to that, Hamilton coached linebackers and special teams at Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas, where the Bulldogs won the 2019 Southwest Junior College Football Conference championship. Under Hamilton’s guidance, Navarro linebacker Abraham Beauplan ranked second among the NJCAA ranks in total tackles and has since gone on to become a first-team All-Conference USA performer at Marshall University. As a team, the Bulldogs ranked among the nation’s top five teams in field goals made, net punting, kickoff return yards, punt return average, and blocked punts.

Following his prior successful season at EMCC as an assistant when the 2013 Lions went unbeaten in securing their second of five eventual national championships, Hamilton served a five-year coaching stint (2014-18) at Troy University. While initially working on the defensive side of the football as a graduate assistant and then later as a senior football analyst, Hamilton worked with current West Virginia head coach Neal Brown and WVU defensive coordinator Jordan Lesley in collectively helping turn the Trojans into one of the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference. Troy posted collective records of 31-8 overall and 20-4 in conference play with three straight (2016-18) postseason bowl game victories. While with the Trojans, Hamilton previously assisted in the development of 2018 Freshman All-America linebacker Carlton Martial, who looks to challenge the NCAA’s FBS career tackles record in 2022.

During his previous season on the Scooba campus, Hamilton worked with EMCC’s outside linebackers under Lesley’s guidance. On the field, Hamilton helped develop second-team NJCAA All-American linebacker Christian Russell, who went on to play at Ole Miss. Arguably touting the NJCAA’s best defensive unit, the 2013 Lions squad also featured current NFL defensive line veterans Jarran Reed (Green Bay) and D.J. Jones (Denver) while allowing an average of only 9.8 points per contest, including five shutouts.

Upon earning his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Mississippi State in 2010, Hamilton’s first full-time coaching position came as a defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at East Central Community College during the 2012 season.

Hamilton’s coaching interest began in his hometown of Starkville during his Mississippi State undergraduate days. After graduating from Starkville Academy with a state championship to his credit, he assisted the SA coaching staff in various capacities and later continued to gain valuable work experience in the area of defensive quality control at MSU.

With a master’s degree in sport and fitness management from Troy, Hamilton is married to the former Mallory Madison of Philadelphia, Miss. They have a son, Sims, who was born in October 2021.
