EMCC’s De’Andre Johnson collects second NJCAA Player of the Week football honor this season
Quarterback De’Andre Johnson of third-ranked East Mississippi Community College continues to add to his growing list of season accomplishments by being named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this football season.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Quarterback De'Andre Johnson of third-ranked East Mississippi Community College continues to add to his growing list of season accomplishments by being named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this football season.
A transfer from Florida State University, Johnson had 422 yards of total offense in last Saturday's 51-32 EMCC Homecoming triumph over previously top-ranked Northwest Mississippi. In addition to completing 26-of-40 passes for 334 yards and a season-high five touchdowns without an interception, Johnson also rushed for a game-high 88 yards on 20 carries.
Also a three-time MACJC Offensive Player of the Week recipient this season, Johnson ranks fifth nationally with an average of 294.5 passing yards per game on the year along with having completed 64 percent of his passes with 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions thrown. Averaging 368.3 yards of total offense per contest for the season, Johnson also ranks as EMCC's rushing leader with a team-most 443 yards on the ground.
Johnson, 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, initially garnered NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week accolades following the Lions' 44-42 road win over Itawamba on Sept. 22. In that contest three weeks ago, the Jacksonville, Florida product amassed 588 yards of total offense with 417 yards and three touchdowns on 34-of-49 passing as well as 171 rushing yards on 23 attempts against the Indians.
Coach Buddy Stephens' 6-1 EMCC Lions, 5-0 in division play on the year, will look to outright claim their sixth straight MACJC North Division football title and eighth in nine years by closing out their regular-season division slate Thursday evening at Coahoma Community College. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at James E. Miller Stadium in Clarksdale.
